What inspired this mix? Tell us a little about it:
I played a show in my home town here in Nashville around last Christmas, and I decided I wanted to do a throwback vinyl only set. I had so much fun spinning this set live for my friends, and it was still fresh in my mind, so I decided to lay it down in the studio so I could share it online.
What was your process for putting the mix together?
Usually when I make a full length mix it's a studio creation, where I'll carefully and meticulously obsess over every little detail. With this I decided I was just gonna hit record, and do it in one take, mixed live. I wanted to capture the raw subtleties of a doing it all at once with no edits or overdubs. There's a slightly janky spot or two in it, but there's a beauty and purity in that. This mix primarily showcases my love for on the fly blends, using instrumentals and acapellas.
Favorite song on the mix?
I gotta give the Dangermouse mashup a shout out. It's the 50 Cent Suzanne Vega mash. Not only is it the jam, but since all the other mashes and blends are being done on the fly, I didn't want any false credit for that Dangermouse record.
What’s next on your plate these days?
I'm finishing up an all original electronic hip hop album. I'm very excited about it, and I also plan to press up some vinyl copies of it once it's released.
I'd like to give a shout out to my baby mamma, Miley Cyrus.
